What is Shiatsu

What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a unique form of energetic bodywork that provides the satisfaction of touch along with a profound energy-balancing experience. It is based on thousands of years of Asian healing methods that are proven to enhance and restore health. Shiatsu relieves muscle tension; eases joint stiffness and re-aligns the structure of the body. Regular Shiatsu sessions help to prevent the build up of stress in our daily lives.

Through the application of pressure and gentle stretching techniques, Shiatsu works directly with the meridians or energetic pathways in the body. Unlike traditional massage, which focuses on manipulating tissue, Shiatsu moves energy. It is appropriate for all ages and body types.

What should I expect?

Shiatsu treatment is usually 1 or 1 1/2 hours in length. It is performed fully clothed, with the receiver usually lying on a futon on the floor. For those who have difficulty lying on the floor, the work is easily adapted to a table. You should wear socks and comfortable clothing that allows your limbs to be moved freely and covers your arms and legs. Following a Shiatsu session people often say that they feel relaxed, calm, balanced and invigorated to take on life’s challenges
